About The Edinburgh Waterfront
The Edinburgh Waterfront is one of the most significant waterfront regeneration projects in Europe.
Forth Ports PLC started regeneration activity on the waterfront in the 1980s, leading in the 1990s to the opening of the Malmaison Hotel, the development of the Scottish Executive building, Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre and Rennies Isle – a property development featuring waterfront flats.
By 2001, Western Harbour and Granton Harbour emerged as significant development sites and were granted outline planning consent in 2002 and 2003 respectively. Since achieving planning consent, a variety of national and local housing developers have committed to the construction of almost 1,500 homes. In addition, it will include new local amenities such as shopping outlets, schools and leisure facilities.
To date, Forth Ports PLC has invested over £100 million in the regeneration process which underlines the company’s long term commitment to the waterfront area of the city. The plans feature a superb mixture of residential, commercial, leisure and retail space that covers 450 acres of land and over 2 miles of shoreline with the most recent planning application laying the foundations for the next 30 years of development in Edinburgh.
